Training Aid Tuesday. A Golf Video Blog with Mel Sole.

Today is November 8th, 2016 and we present our Golf Video Blog "Training Aid Tuesdays"!  Today we don't talk about a training aid per se, but rather a product that I think will help your golf game. If golfers are serious about improving their games there are at least 4 items that should always be in your golf bag.

1. Always have alignment sticks in your golf bag. Without these how do you ensure your alignment is always correct on the range!

2. Carry a Rangefinder.  Know the distances you hit the ball with each club.  Your scores will reflect your improved accuracy!

3. Carry an Orange Whip.  Check out the link if you . . .

What is bounce angle on golf clubs, and how do you use it?

Understanding bounce angle on golf clubs will help you not dig the club into the ground when you are chipping and will help the club slide through the sand on bunker shots. If you understand bounce, you are well on your way to becoming a good golfer. A sand wedge will usually have more bounce than a lob (or 60 degree) wedge and these have different functions.  Golf Monthly's Mike Reynolds explains the ins and outs of bounce!

The top 10 most overrated ideas in golf. #6 is my favorite!

When an inventor comes up with a new idea, they think "I will tell everyone about my new idea and they will all thank me for such a great invention!"   Unfortunately, not all inventions work out!  But if we didn't get these overrated ideas in golf, we would never get the great ideas.  So thank you to all the inventors/designers/swing gurus out there and thank you to Golf Swing by Swing for bringing us such an entertaining article!

Is the lie angle important at the address position? No!

How the club sits on the ground ( or the lie angle) at address is not that important.  How the club sits at impact is!  You want the bottom of the club to be perfectly flat through impact in order to keep the club moving through the turf without any unnecessary twisting.  Piers Ward and Andy Proudman from meandmygolf.com   explain "Dynamic Fitting," having the club in motion while you are being measured, is essential in being fitted correctly.

The new “Soft” Balls might just suit your game. Try them out!

I recently went out to give a playing lesson.  On checking my golf bag, I noticed that I was low on golf balls.  Not having the time to get to the store to get a new box, I went to my wife's bag and took a sleeve of balls from her bag.  Only once I had got to the tee did I notice that they were Lady Precepts made by Bridgestone.  Well, as this was a playing lesson about my student and not about me, I decided just to play with them.  I hit this ball about . . .

How a Mizuno Wedge made a Difference!

As golfers get older (like myself) we start to lose distance.  I started to notice this after my 60th birthday.  I lost about a half a club.  By my 64th birthday I had lost a full club.  BUT, I am still scoring exactly the same.  My handicap has not gone up because of my distance loss.  WHY?  Because I now concentrate on my wedge game and my putting.  I have managed to maintain a 1.3 index even though I do not play a lot of golf these days due to a really busy teaching schedule.
