If you think the Pro's are Going to have it hard at Oakmont this week, forget about it!

Derek Clements, writing for SwingbySwing.com, reminds us that there have been some brutal courses in the past.  Ask Phil Mickelson about Oakmont in 2007, or Ben Hogan in 1955 when he lost in a playoff to Jack Fleck after finishing with a 7 over par total of 287!

Every year the world’s best professional golfers turn up to play in . . .

The Best Golfing States in the Land! My State came in #5!

Where Does your State Rank in “Golfiness” ?

Jim Moriarty has written a terrific story for LINKS Magazine called 'The Best Golf States."  Jim says each state's “golfiness” is considered. That means that the following factors are studied and tallied to decide how 'golfy' your state is.

The Top 3 Courses in Britain. I’d love to play #2!

Many Americans have travelled "Over the Pond" to visit and play either Scotland or Ireland.  Not many have gone over to play courses in England.  I don't know why that is as there are just as many great golf courses in England.  Where2Golf.com gives us some insight into the "Big 3" of British golf.  Certainly makes me want to go over and play right now!

BLIND HOLES . . . . Love ’em or Hate ’em?

I love this story by Jeff Silverman, who wrote 'Site Unseen: Terrific Blind Holes' for Winter 2015 LINKS Magazine.

To hit a shot where you cannot see over the hill in front of you, or around a corner, presents adventure, but it's all about trust and faith. We must believe in ourselves & our swings, and then enjoy the dash up the hill to see what awaits on the other side. To see the ball soar and then disappear, sparks youthful hope within. As Silverman says “Who isn't a child . . .

Another Great Golf Destination – Turkey?

To continue on my "Golf Travel" theme for today, I came across this article from Bahadir Kaymakci  on golf vacation packages in Turkey.  I have never though of Turkey as a golf destination, but, what really caught my eye were the affordable prices.  7 nights in the Sirene Belek, a 5 star resort and 4 rounds of golf for $865!  This is one of 10 packages offered by visitantalya . . .

Did the Narrow Mouthed Whorl Snail change the face of Irish Golf?

I played Doonbeg  a few years ago when I took a group to Ireland for a golfing vacation.  My comments were : "Greg Norman ruined a great piece of property" and "This is not a course I wish to play again."

I might change my mind about playing this course again since Donald Trump purchased Doonbeg Golf club recently and will rename it Trump International Golf Links.

But the Donald did have his trials and tribulations along the way, and thanks to an endangered species of Narrow Mouthed Whorl Snails, changed . . .

The most famous golf course you have never heard of!

Tin Cup is my favorite golf movie of all time!  Yes, Yes, I know Caddyshack  is everyone's favorite movie, but for me, as a golf professional, I understand what Roy McAvoy  (played by Kevin Costner)  is going through.  As Tour Players, we all had (or have) our demons, and conquering them is a victory in itself!  But do you know which golf course the movie was filmed?  This has become a great trivia question.  "What is the most famous golf course you have never heard of?"  Read on.  That to learn about our VIP Program here »

The scariest 18 Holes in Golf in the USA!

What defines a "Scary Hole"?  One that gets your heart rate up and intimidates you!  The players on the PGA Tour say this is what the 17th at TPC does to them.  That walk from the 16th green to the 17th tee elevates their heart rate and makes their knees weak.  They sure are glad when they walk to the 18th tee with a 3 on the card.  Personally, the 13th at Pawleys Plantation off the back tees has a similar effect on me.  What is your scariest hole?

Which Golf Courses to pair with your wine? Part 4

This is the 4th in my series "Which Golf Courses to Pair with your wine."  We have travelled to Napa & Sonoma, then the Paarl & Stellenbosch areas of South Africa.  Part 3 covered Argentina, and today we cover the Okanagan region of Canada. As there are several wine regions in Canada, I will cover the Niagara Falls Region in my next "Golf Courses to Pair with your wine" post.

Our article today was expertly written by Tim Montana of CanadaGolf.com.  It is obvious that Tim is both an avid golfer and a . . .

10 Most Unusual U.S. Golf Courses #5 gets my vote!

Unusual golf courses are not uncommon, but some, like these next 10, take it to a whole new level. Most golf course design is directed by nature, with undulations following natural contours of the land. However, some architects have had to create magic from the remains of abandoned mines, airstrips, and even huge dinosaur fossil footprints that are well marked for your viewing.

I am most impressed with the story behind Whistling Straits in Wisconsin and Fossil Trace in Golden, Colorado.
