The Historic Face Off between Hogan and Snead at Houston CC.

This was going to be the match of the ages!  The free flowing "Slammin' Sam" against the technical machine of "The Hawk" conjured up memories of great rivalries of the past like the Red Sox and the Yankees!  Between them, they won 146 PGA Tour events and 16 Majors.  This is Mohammed Ali and Sonny Liston, ready to take the other man apart!  What I would have given to be there.  Thanks to Al Barkow for GOLF Magazine for bringing back the past . . .

The Best and Worst Golf Songs in History! #3 is my Favorite!

If you are a golfer you will appreciate the words to some of these songs, as we all want to be "Straight Down the Middle", "Hit it Hard", and the humor in Peter Jacobson's "Love the one you Whiff"  Of course I won't even mention the Top 5 Worst golf songs, (but you can check them out at the bottom of the page) and hopefully we won't have to listen to them anytime soon!  Golf songs in this list will not make the hit parade.  Thanks to learn about our VIP Program here »

Playing at a Women Only Golf Course can be intimidating!

I played The Ladies Golf Club of Toronto when I lived there in the late 1980's. I was invited by one of my female students who was a member there, and as I walked into the clubhouse I immediately felt what thousands of women have felt for centuries, a sense of not belonging. I smiled at my unease, and gave a thumbs up for women's equality!

It is a wonderful golf course and men are still not welcome as members but are allowed to play the course, and can even buy a . . .

Two golf course developers named Mike Keiser and Ben Cowan – Dewar combined their talents to produce not only Cabot Cliffs, but it's elder sibling, Cabot Links. They chose designers Rod Whitman for Cabot Links, and the now-famous team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw designed Cabot Cliffs.

I've discovered while writing these posts that golfers enjoy seeing images of beautiful courses. I'm with them!  This post exposes you to the newly-opened (July 1, 2015) Cabot cliffs golf course in northern Nova Scotia in Canada . . .

We all want to do that, right?

The Best Quotes on the Top 21 Courses! #5 is Classic!

After a practice round before the British Open, one of the reporters asked Lee "How did you find the course?"  Lee's reply was "I walked out the locker room and there it was!"  His classic remark about Merion Golf Club - "I love Merion and I don't even know her last name."  When Lee Westwood first saw Whistling Straits he said, “I'd been told there are 10 difficult holes and eight impossible ones. I'm still trying to work out which the 10 difficult holes are."  So what are the . . .

We match Top Chefs at Top Golf Courses. A Golfing foodie’s dream!

I love great food and good restaurants.  Add a really good bottle of wine, and I'm in heaven!   I envy a journalist like Josh Sens who gets to try out all these restaurants and GOLF Magazine pays him to write about it.  Need an assistant Josh?  Joking aside, Josh does a great job of bringing us a taste, albeit one vicariously, of the best food in golf!  Next February I'll be playing in the Mizuno Pebble Beach Pro-Am, so I guess I'll be dining at Roy's at Spanish . . .

Have you ever heard of the Mediocre Golf Association? Neither had I!

This group of fun, but not highly skilled golfers, formed the MGA in San Francisco in 2006. It is now a global operation with 1,200 members (and growing) in four countries. Wow! The handicapping system they use penalizes good players (anyone with an index lower than 18), instead of giving strokes to poor players. The winner of a Mediocre Golf Assoc'n tournament will not be a sandbagger and should turn in a “truly so-so performance.” No scores lower than 80 are allowed!

Do you love golf as much as much as your mothers cooking?

This video is hilarious.  Zurich Insurance, a sponsor on the PGA Tour, recently gave a test to some top PGA Tour & LPGA Tour golfers, while they were hooked up to a lie detector. Mainly it is to find out if they truly love golf, but the questions are quirky and hilarious. Not the normal questions from the crime lab!

Watch this video on YouTube for a belly laugh:

In a recent video series, Zurich Insurance put professional golfers to the test, trying to determine if they really . . .

The Top 4 ball striking tips from Sergio Garcia. #4 is a must!

Sergio Garcia has the honor currently of having the "Best Player to have Never Won a Major" title bestowed upon him.  He is one of, if not THE best ball striker on both the PGA and European Tours. His petulance has cost him some negative feedback in the press, but he says he is trying to change.  I really hope he will live up to the potential we all saw in the 1999 PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club. His putting has been streaky at best, so it we see Sergio with a hot putter, watch out!
