Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Watch as I explain the HUGE benefits of waggling the club and how to do it.

The Waggle can look like a golfer's nervous habit to the uninitiated, but there's a tangible goal in mind for those who Waggle: more clubhead speed and more distance.

Grip Pressure.

When you are waggling the club, you cannot have a tight grip.  If the grip is soft, you will get more lag on the downswing, more clubhead speed, and more distance as a result.

The Waggle.

The waggle not only keeps the hands soft but also the wrists and forearms.  Try and waggle the club with a tight grip and tight forearms.  You cannot do it!

Footwork.

To eliminate tension in the body, the constant shifting of the feet will do the job.  When the feet are moving from side to side, the entire lower body stays activated.  Ready to make a nice smooth backswing.  Show me a jerky backswing, and I'll show you tension in the legs, arm, and hands!

I recently gave a lesson to a young man about 16 years old.  He wanted to hit the ball so far that there was a tremendous amount of tension built up in his swing.  The moment I got him to soften everything up, much to his delight, he immediately starting hitting the ball further!

When you combine the grip pressure, the waggle, and the moving footwork, you will have an "alive" golf swing that is ready to move fluidly, get lots of speed, and hit the ball further.  Sounds easy?  It is!
