Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

A proper golf grip is essential to your game.  This month’s latest video golf tip teaches one of the foundations of good grip: how to place your hands on the club. Perfect your golf grip, and you’ll be well on your way to better golf!

I have never seen a good golfer with a bad grip, so a good grip is synonymous with good golf.

Placing the hands on the club.

Left hand.

The grip fits just under the pad just above the pinky finger of the lead hand and across the middle finger of that lead hand.  You should be able to hold the club balanced between these two points.  When placing the clubhead on the ground, you should see two knuckles of the lead hand.

Right hand.

The club fits primarily in the fingers.  With these grip positions, you can still use the overlapping grip, which has the small finger of the lower hand overlapping the index finger of the lead hand.  The interlocking grip allows the small finger of the lower hand to interlock with the index finger of the lead hand.  And finally, you could grip the club with all your fingers on the grip.  This is called a 10 finger grip.

Grip pressure.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being as tight as you can grip the club and 1 being as loose as you can hold the club without it falling to the ground, the correct grip pressure for all golf shots should be between 2 or a 3.
