Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Follow along as I talk about shots that will lower your scores quickly!

In this month's video golf tip, I talk about using finesse in your short game as a path to better consistency and accuracy. It's all about the economy of movement, strategy, and of course, quantifying your practice.

Pitching.

When hitting pitch shots, imagine shooting a bow and arrow.  You would draw the string back slowly, and when you felt ready, you would release the arrow.  That is the feeling you want in your pitch shots.  Draw the club back slowly and when you feel you are in the correct position, swing through with a nice even pace.  Don't rush the shot!

Chipping.

Before you hit a chip shot, take several practice swings with what I call "the brush brush" shot.  Let the club brush the ground both on the backswing and through-swing.  Try and feel a pendulum stroke with the backswing speed and follow-through being about the same speed.  When you step in to hit the ball, try and duplicate that speed.  Your results will be a whole lot better.  The same as the pitch shot, don't rush!

Mastering Short Game Finesse is not only for good golfers.  Higher handicaps can work on these shots at the practice range of their home course or even in their backyard.  Set up a little pitching area for 20 to 30-yard shots.  You'll be glad you did when you see your scores come tumbling down!
