Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Most golfers go to the driving range to hit balls but never really improve.  Why?  Because that’s all they’re doing.  Hitting balls.  They are not teaching their golf swing to get better. If you know How to Practice with a purpose, you will see results a lot quicker!  Constantly take lessons from your instructor for two reasons.

  1. You can check to see whether you are still making a move correctly
  2. If the move has been perfected, what is the next move to work on?

Don’t be afraid to exaggerate!

There is always perception (what you think you’re doing) and reality (what you’re really doing), and they are very different.  To make significant changes to your swing that will last forever, you need to enter the “Uncomfortable Zone.”

Remember, your body does not know the difference between right and wrong.  So you have to teach it!

The Method.

Get into the habit of holding your follow-through.  Pose in that position and check out your positions.  If they are not correct (based on your last golf lesson), then before you come down with your follow-through to hit the next shot, put yourself in the correct position and say to yourself, “My next shot, I’m going to finish here!”  Take two practice swings to feel the desired swing and hit the next shot.  Hold that follow-through and ask yourself the same questions.

After doing this continually for a few weeks, the body will have learned that new position and will automatically be going into that position.  At that point, you can stop working on the drill!
