The troubleshot today is learning how to hit the ball low.  After hitting our drive into the trees and needing a shot to keep the ball below the branches, it is important to keep the hands ahead of the ball at impact.

See how the setup will help you do this.

Step 1.

Play the ball back in the stance.

Step 2.

Move the hands ahead of the ball at the address.

Step 3.

Don't take a club with minimal loft.  Use something like a 5 or even a 6 iron.  Using a low lofted club and playing the ball back will make the player smother the ball and not get and flight on the ball.

Step 4.

Cut the follow-through short.  Don't follow through all the way, as this will encourage the ball flight to go up in the air. It's like when you threw flat stones across a lake.  Your throwing arm stayed low.  If you allowed the arm to come up over your shoulder, the stone would not stay low. Same with the stinger!
