Today we talk about practicing indoors if outdoors is not possible due to inclement weather.  Two things you can do to improve your short game for the spring while stuck indoors in the winter.

Chipping:

Take a chipping mat or piece of carpet to chip off.  Put a coin anywhere from 4 to 10 feet away.  Chip off the mat and try to land the ball on the coin.  The purpose of this drill is to improve your feel.  Make sure you are looking at the coin while you do your practice swings.  Then step up and hit the chip.  If the chip flies too far then make an adjustment and hit the next shot a little softer, still looking at the coin while doing your practice swings.  Every chip is an adjustment on the previous chip until you can consistently land the ball on the coin.  Put a pillow behind to prevent the ball from running into the furniture.

Putting:

Use a putting mat or a putting mirror and putt towards a target.  I use an electric putting cup that shoots the ball back to me, but you can use anything as a target.  The use of the putting mirror helps to get your eyes directly over the ball which will help you with your aim on the golf course.

Work on technique.

Eyes over the ball.  Working the putter path straight back and straight through.  Making sure the putter face stays square throughout the stroke.  These are all things you can work on to improve your putting stroke.
