Monday after the Masters.

Monday after the Masters.

Today is April 9th, 2018 and we present Monday after the Masters.  Monday Rewind #83.  A Golf Video Blog with Mel Sole, Director of Instruction and Master Professional at the Mel Sole Golf School, headquartered at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club in Pawleys Island, SC.

Monday after the Masters.

There was so much hype leading up the Masters that this year was going to be one of the best ever! I don’t know about that, but it certainly did leave us holding our breath until the very end.  All the players we expected to be in the hunt on Sunday were there.  Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Bubba Watson.  Phil And Tiger were sentimental favourites but they did not really have a chance.  Both played well on Sunday, at least leaving the ground feeling like they gave it their best shot!

On the final day, I thought the winner would be maybe Reed, McIlroy, Fowler, and Rahm.  Shockingly, McIlroy played the poorest, shooting a 74 starting off with a tee shot that went 45 degrees off to the right.  He never found his rhythm and struggled all day.  Rickie, after a slow start, birdied 6 of the last 11 holes to shoot 67 but came up 1 shot short.  Jon’s day ended on 15th when he dumped his second shot into the pond in front of the green.

The big surprise was Jordan Spieth.  After a good start in round 1, rounds 2 and 3 were mediocre at best, but Jordan became only the second person to shoot 2 64’s in a Masters Tournament. Jordan bogeyed the 18th but would have had to birdie 18 to get into a playoff.

So, Patrick Reed is the 2018 Masters Champion. His round was not pretty, but he never gave up and his 25-foot birdie on 12 was a message to the others that he was not going to go away!  Congrats to Patrick for an entertaining tournament!

So here we are at the Monday after the Masters, leaving a lot of players contemplating what could have been.  A putt here, a chip there.  We’ll have to wait till next year!

Not too sure what Patrick will come up with for the Masters Dinner next year, but here is a taste of this elite club.
