Short Game Saturday #59. A Golf Video Blog with Mel Sole.

Today is October 28th, 2017, and we present Short Game Saturday #59.  A Golf Video Blog with Mel Sole.  Today we talk about teaching beginner juniors that thing called "feel". We all grew up throwing a ball, so first introduce that, and then once they understand how hard to throw to a flagstick, give them a club and encourage them to do the same thing.  Make it fun!

The next “Tiger” is standing in the wings!

Those of us that were lucky enough to watch the Tiger Woods Era thought that we would never see anything like that ever again.  However, there is always someone standing in the wings ready to take over the throne!   When I watch Robin "Tiger" Williams talk about his golf, what really strikes me immediately is his complete grasp of what he needs to do to become a champion.  He talks about flare, creativity, and imagination like he has been doing this for years!  No one can predict the future, but my guess is this boy's future will . . .

15 reasons you should take your kid to the golf course! #4 is important!

Unlike my early childhood days, today's parents attend their child's activities.  If the child plays basketball, football or baseball, the parents (who used to be golfers) are now forfeiting their own pleasures to support their child on the field.  However, if we can encourage the kids to come to clinics, play golf on the course and let them see that this is a game of a lifetime, maybe, just maybe, children will say to their parents "Hey, Dad/Mom can we go to the course to practice and play today?"  I have always believed that, in . . .

Myrtle Beach, SC is the Best Place To Take Kids Golfing!

The headquarters of my 5 golf schools is in the heart of Myrtle beach, SC.  Called "The Golf Capital of the World." Myrtle Beach is a vacationer's dream.  There are so many things to do and the prices are extremely reasonable!  I am headquartered at Tupelo Bay Golf Center on the border of Murrells Inlet and Garden City, which has a great practice facility that is lighted at night until 10 pm.  It has an executive length golf course, a par 3 course, and a mini-putt.  The par 3 is also used for "Foot Golf" which . . .

Hook your child on Golf and you will have a friend for life!

Introduce your kids to golf, the right way, and they'll be your playing partners for life. With the school season now at an end, families are looking to spend time together.Starting them young is much easier than trying to get them to play as teenagers. It will also be an advantage later, when they are immersed in the business world.  To hook your child on golf it's got to be FUN. You can't hold them to boring, restrictive things like rules when they are very young. They'll lose interest quickly. Get . . .

Get your child to play golf (and get a free education!)

Did you know that each year hundreds of girls golf scholarships go unused?

Although there has finally been an increase in girls high school golf teams, the number of opportunities for young women to receive college golf scholarships far outweighs those for boys. The boys football and golf scholarships are always filled, but because some colleges have an equal-opportunity scholarship policy, the women's golf scholarships are not used. It seems that not everyone realizes that these are available, and that there may be misconceptions as to the level of golf skills required to gain a . . .

Are You Up For Some Family Golf This Summer?

One question I hear often is “How young should I start my child in golf?” When a child expresses a desire to swing the club, that’s when you start. Even children under 5 years can learn golf skills if you make it fun for them.

I like to start Juniors off by helping them to get the ball in the hole from a short distance. They see quicker results this way and it’s much easier to putt than to perform the full swing.

How can you guarantee the fun factor for your . . .

Your Child is Prepared for a Golf Tournament. Are You?

I recently coached a young boy who played in several U.S. Kids Golf tournaments. U.S. Kids Golf is a terrific organization that helps kids learn the game of golf and builds family interaction. They do a great job of teaching and encouraging the kids, plus they organize age-appropriate competitions for them. These Junior players are mostly wonderful kids and just want the chance to play, and maybe dream of a golf career like their idols on the Tour.

The parents are a whole . . .

Fitting your child for clubs? This is an important decision!

Almost 50% of the juniors I teach have incorrect golf equipment.  Fitting your child for clubs helps the child develop a correct golf swing motion.  Clubs that are too long will make the child swing too flat.  Clubs that are too heavy (cut off adult clubs) will make them get too "handsy" as they try to lift the club, and clubs that are too light for them will make them hit from the top as they try to create more clubhead speed.

What's the best way to select the right golf club size . . .

Is your Child Ready to try his/her skills at Augusta National?

Who could forget the 2014 Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National?

We watched 11-year-old Leo Cheng drain a putt that Rory McIlroy would be proud of, and 8-year-old Kelly Xu showed skills equal to Lydia Ko's! Kelly also holds a historic record: the first female champion at Augusta National Golf Club.

The Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association (USGA) and the PGA of America officially opened the 2016 Drive, Chip and Putt Championship by announcing the qualifying schedule for young . . .

10 Reasons to get your kids started in Golf.

I really enjoy teaching juniors!  They have such enthusiasm and love for what they are doing. Below are 10 reasons to get your kids started in Golf.

I, myself, had a very positive experience from the very first day I ever picked up a golf club, and it has taught me many of life's lessons . . .
