Playing tournament golf is both exciting and hard at the same time.  Practicing for tournament conditions is even more so.  It isn’t easy to simulate tournament conditions on the driving range, but it can be done. One of the body reactions that researchers have discovered is that there is an increase in heart rate.  The more pressure you feel on the golf course, the higher the heart rate.  So to simulate that condition, you need to get the heart rate up while you practice.

For example, when you practice putting, do some jumping jacks, then immediately pick up the putter, get over the ball, and hit some putts.  While concentrating on your breathing, you attempt to slow your heart rate down while you are over the ball.

The Sprint Method.

When you practice the full swing, start by standing about 50 yards behind the ball, sprint up to the ball, get into your address position, and concentrate on breathing to slow the heart rate and hit the shot.

These are techniques you can use for all aspects of the game.  Whether it is chipping, bunker shots, or little pitch shots around the green, get your heart rate up and then focus on your breathing.  After a few weeks of doing this, you will notice that you can slow your heart rate significantly with simple breathing techniques. Then, take those techniques to the golf course the next time you are in tournament conditions, and you will see your performance improve dramatically!
