Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

If you want to improve your pitching and chipping technique almost immediately, this is the drill for you.  Follow along!

Don't punish yourself with low scores! Instead, use the Punisher Drill to master chip and pitch shots.  In this month's video golf tip, I demonstrate the Painful Punisher Drill--a chipping and pitching drill that helps improve contact and lower scores. Using a do-it-yourself training aid that provides immediate feedback, you can eliminate "scooping" shots for good.

The Club.

Take your Sand Wedge or Pitching and slide an alignment stick into the hole in the grip. Leave about 3 feet sticking out.

The Technique.

Go into your chipping stance with the alignment stick between your lead arm and body.  Hit some chips without the alignment stick hitting you in the ribs.  Concentrate on moving the handle and not the clubhead to accomplish this.

If you can manage to hit The Painful Punisher Drill without the Pain, you have taught yourself the correct chipping and pitching technique!
