Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Last month one of my former corporate students, Lisa Vandenham, came to school for a refresher. Lisa had trouble releasing her hands through the impact area, so I gave her this drill with great results!

In picture #1, Lisa has her normal ball position. However, she was having difficulty allowing the clubface to square quickly enough.

I moved the ball forward in her stance about 6 inches to just outside her front foot. #2 Lisa swung through, hitting the ball dead straight!

This forward ball position gave the student about 6 more inches to square the clubface. It forced the student to "go after the ball," generating a good extension through impact and thus eliminating the dreaded "chicken wing." If you tend to slice with your driver, try this out on the range before heading to the course. You will be surprised by the results.

Lisa will gradually move the ball back to the correct position as her hands learn the correct release point. I mentioned that as soon as she starts hooking the ball, she needs to move it back to her normal position. She called me the next day to say she had just had her best round ever! Congrats Lisa!

So here is Another practice drill to end that slice! Head to the range and check this out!
