A New Golf Drill for Improving the Follow-Through!

Most golfers who struggle with distance off the tee usually also do not have a lot of speed. As a result, their golf swings usually have a restricted follow-through.  This is a great drill for golfers to get an idea of what the swing feels like with a completed follow-through!

The Method!

Get yourself a basketball, soccer ball, or medicine ball and take it in both hands.  Take your normal golf stance and have a partner stand directly behind you.  Take your backswing, but instead of throwing the ball out in front of you, throw the ball as hard as you can over your left shoulder. (for right-handed golfers) This will force you to complete the follow-through.

You will be surprised to find out just how much speed you have missed in your golf swing.  This will give you the sensation of swinging fully through the shot.  You will notice your weight is all the way through on the front foot with your belt buckle fully forwards.  Now take out an iron, something like a 6 or 7 iron, and hit a few shots trying to emulate the sensation you have just experienced.  I think you will be pleased with the results!

The Takeaway from the Drill!

You will understand that to create the distance. However, it would help if you created speed.  To create speed, you have to follow all the way through.  Do this drill for a couple of days to really get the feel. Then, get your partner to start standing further and further away from you slowly.  This will force you to create the necessary speed to get the ball all the way back.
