Full Extension. Golf Power package #4.
This is Part 4 of our 5 Part Series on how to gain more distance. I call it the Power Package! Part 1 we worked on a wide takeaway. Part 2 we worked on a full shoulder turn and in Part 3 we worked on the correct sequence in starting the downswing. Today we discuss the extension. An important part of the golf swing in general. If you want to hit the ball more solidly with every club in your bag, the club moving “down the line” will do it. In order to get the club moving down the line the lead arm needs to remain straight and the clubhead moving towards the target through impact.
Take any club (preferably a short iron) and hit half shots. Learning to hit the ball without breaking the lead arm through impact will give you good direction. Finish with an abbreviated follow-through and freeze the follow-through. Now check to see if your lead arm is still straight. If not, I suggest you use a training aid called the Arm TacTic which gives you the feedback telling you whether the lead arm is breaking down or not. You should now start feeling a more solid hit. Slowly increase the length of the swing. Keeping that lead arm straight as long as you can through the impact zone.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please email me at email@example.com and I will be happy to assist.
