Dustin Johnson Dominates at the Canadian Open Golf Championship!

The RBC Canadian Open Golf Championship was played over the Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.  And the best golfer in the world right now, Dustin Johnson, showed why he is still #1.  With a dominating display of power and finesse, he went around Glen Abbey in three shots less than the rest of the field! Turning all four par 5’s into par fours in the final round, he shot 66 to beat Ben An and Whee Kim, both from Korea, comfortably!  Dustin has now won 19 tournaments in the last decade, one more than Tiger Woods, who has not played much in the last 5.

On a sad note, we announce the passing of 13 time PGA Tour winner Bruce Litske, who died of brain cancer on Saturday.  Bruce won the Canadian Open twice, in 1978 and again in 1982.

European Tour:

Peter McEvoy’s win in the Porshe European Open at Green Eagle Golf Course in Hamburg, Germany was not the big story of the week.  The amazing collapse of Bryson DeChambeau was.  Leading with four holes left to play he dramatically dropped 5 shots over the final four holes to finish in 9th place.

This was McEvoy’s first win on the European Tour. Coming hot on the heels of a victory last week on the European Challenge Tour. Finishing second was amateur Allen John who is deaf.  He recently won a gold medal in golf at the Deaf Olympics.

The other big story was Bryson’s rudeness on the final green.  His handshake with winner McEvoy was a little more than a touch with no eye contact!  Finishing with a triple bogey eight on the last obviously added to his temper tantrum.  He did apologize later when he realized the error of his ways.  Hopefully, this will be a learning experience in humility by Bryson who is a future star in the game!

LPGA Tour:

Talking about humility, the most humble player in the game of golf right now is Ariya Jutanugarn.  She won the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open at Gullane GC in East Lothian, Scotland.  Minjee Lee missed a short putt on the final green to force a playoff, which allowed Ari to retake the #1 spot in the world of ladies golf.  Love watching this lady play!

PGA Tour Champions:

The world’s most entertaining golfer proved he can also play this game.  Miguel Angel Jimenez won the Rolex Senior Open Championship.  He beat golf’s Everready bunny’, Bernhard Langer, by 1.  Miguel becomes the second Spaniard to win a major at the famed Old Course at St Andrew’s.  Seve Ballesteros won the Open Championship there in 1984. “This is the place where everyone wants to win and the place where Seve won his second British Open,” Jimenez said. “It has always been my ambition to win here. It feels like I am part of history.”
