The Grip - Technical Thursday #48.

The grip is the only connection between you and the golf club.  Mel explains how to make sure your hands are placed correctly regardless of whether you need a strong, neutral, or weak grip.  Check it out!

Taking your golf grip is like clapping hands.  The palms must be adjacent to one another. It does not matter if you have a strong grip or a weak grip as long as the palms face each other. 

There are 3 types of grips.

The baseball or 10 Finger Grip.

This grip is good for juniors, ladies, or senior men.  Usually, people who do not have powerful hands.  They need all 10 fingers to be able to hang on to the club.

The Overlapping Grip.

The most common grip.  About 90% of golfers in the world use the grip made famous by Harry Vardon. The small finger of the upper hand overlaps the index finger of the lower hand.

The Interlocking Grip.

This grip is good for players with small palms or short stubby fingers.  They struggle to get the small finger of the upper hand over the lower hand's index finger.

 

Whichever grip you choose, make sure the palms are adjacent to one another, and you cannot go wrong!
