Today we add another interesting shot to the growing repertoire you learn from the Mel Sole Golf School.  The back-handed shot can get you out of all kinds of trouble, from being against a tree, or a wall, to being unable to take your proper stance to play a shot. This is one of those shots that is really fun to practice and is not very hard.  The knowledge that you are adding another shot to your growing arsenal of shots makes this even more useful.  Of course, going to the range and practicing this shot will make you more confident in the execution but will help jog your memory to try this shot.

The Technique of the Back-Handed Shot.

It does not matter which hand you use.  Stand with your back to the target and turn the clubface towards the intended line.  You will have to practice this on the range to determine how far the ball goes as you increase the arc.  It is fun to see just how far you can hit this shot.  If you find yourself against a tree, you can hit this shot a considerable way down the fairway!  Much better than taking a drop with a one-shot penalty.  If this ball position in the video were just outside a fairway bunker, instead of standing inside the bunker, gripping the club really short, and trying to make a very flat swing to make contact, this back-handed shot would advance the ball a whole lot further.  Try it.
