Continuing our theme this week of consistency in your game, hitting the ball in the center of the clubface is critical to consistent ball striking.  Use impact tape or foot powder to help will give you the feedback you need to improve!

Hi, I’m Mel Sole, Director of Instruction at the Mel Sole Golf School, headquartered at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club in Pawleys Island, SC.  Watch as Mel Sole shows how to learn to hit the ball in the middle of the clubface and an easy drill to learn to control the bottom of the arc.  These two things will make you a better, more consistent ball-striker!

Face Tape or Foot Powder!

By placing impact tape or foot spray on your clubface, you can get immediate feedback on where you are striking the ball.  This can help to make slight corrections to your swing.  Impact marks towards the toe tell you that you lift out of the shot or have the chicken wing.  Marks are towards the heel show you are most probably coming over the top.  If you are unsure how to correct these flaws, see your nearest teaching professional or come and see me at Pawleys Plantation in Pawleys Island, SC.

Control the bottom of the Arc!

Here is a drill that you don't even need to leave your backyard.  Take a club and swing it without a ball in the backyard.  The goal is to brush the brass each tie your swing through.  Do not hit the ground, and do not miss the grass. If you can consistently brush the grass, you know that you control the bottom of your arc every time.  Without the ability to do this, you CANNOT play consistently!  Period!
