Teaching juniors has always been one of my teaching pleasures.  Especially working on their fundamentals. But there are things a parent or grandparent can do to add to their child's golf knowledge. I'm talking about three things.

Rules.

As you play alongside this budding golfer, point out some of the most commonly used rules, like how to mark a ball. What is the difference between a lateral hazard and a normal hazard, and how to notice which?  What does each color mean on the stakes set out on the golf course?  Let them know that red indicates a lateral hazard, yellow is a regular hazard, and white stakes mark the out-of-bounds lime.

Etiquette.

Things like raking the bunker correctly.  Tapping your shoes' base so that you do not walk the sand attached to the bottom of your shoes onto the green.

The Pace of Play.

Make the child understand the pace of play. Once they have played their shot, walk briskly to the next shot.  That way, they won't need to rush that next shot.

All of these invaluable lessons will add to their honesty and integrity not only on the golf course but also in their future life. Some top businessmen say that golf influenced them to be punctual, maintain honesty in the boardroom, and show respect for others,  even if they have opposing views.
