What is feel?  According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, feel is an intransitive verb meaning "to receive or be able to receive a tactile sensation."  How do we attain feel in golf?  By training our senses to be able to produce that feel with various drills.  Today we talk about a drill used quite extensively by one of the greatest putters of all time, Billy Casper.

When Billy Casper used to practice his putting, he would look at the hole, look back at the ball, and close his eyes.  After he hit the putt, he would guess whether that putt finished left or right, short or long.  He was one of the very best touch putters in the game, and I'm pretty sure this is how he developed his great feel.

I heard that he would also go out to the putting green in the middle of the night, walk 20 paces from the hole and putt 10 balls.  He never left a putt more than 18 inches from the hole.  Feel and instinct is two things that cannot be taught, only developed.  So it is up to you to do these drills to get better.

I don't know if you noticed, but my head stayed very still when I had my eyes closed, and the eyes did not attempt to follow the ball.  Another reason why putting your eyes closed really helps your putting stroke.
