I am of the school that teaches that the bottom of the arc is the same with every swing.  That position is my lead heel.  That means that I will have one golf swing. The ball position will vary with the irons, fairway woods, and driver.

The Technique.

Irons: The ball position with ALL my irons is 2 inches inside my lead heel. That means that if the bottom of my arc is my lead heel, I am contacting the ball before the bottom of the arc or slightly on the downswing.  This allows me to compress the ball and get the desired spin and slightly lower ball trajectory.

Fairway Woods: The ball position with my fairway woods is directly off my lead heel.  That means that if the bottom of my arc is my lead heel, then I will catch my fairway woods right at the bottom of the arc.  Exactly where I want it to.  This will give me a "sweeping" motion, and because the ball is on the ground, a perfect trajectory for a fairway wood shot.

Driver: The ball position for the driver is off the instep of the lead foot. That means that if the bottom of my arc is my lead foot's heel, I contact the Driver slightly on the upswing.  Because the ball is on a tee, this is exactly what I want for my driver. That perfect trajectory to maximize my distance by eliminating as much backspin as possible with the driver.
