I discuss being stuck behind a tree, and I need to get the ball up in the air pretty quickly.  An easy trick is to choose the correct loft and to be in the right position at impact! Here is how to do that!

Lay a club on the ground with the face of the club up to the sky.  Stand on the face.  The angle that the shaft produces is the approximate launch angle of that club. You can quite quickly see whether the club is going to clear the obstacle or not.

Understand that that angle is when the shaft is at 90 degrees to the ground at impact.  You do not want to have a forward shaft lean as you would with a normal shot.  Otherwise, the trajectory will be lower.  To achieve that correct launch angle, allow the club to pass your hands through impact.  That means that there is a lot less body rotation in this shot!  Once you understand those criteria, go ahead and hit the shot, and the ball should clear your obstacle.
