The short game is so critical if you wish to become a steady and consistent golfer.  These 5 short game shots will add to your repertoire of shots around the green and make you an amazing short game wizard!

The 5 Short Game Shots.

Pitch Shot.

The pitch shot weights the forward leg.  Cock the wrists fairly quickly, let the lead arm swing back to reach the correct length, and then follow through.

Lob Shot.

The lob shot is the same as a pitch shot but without the release.  Keep the angle of the trail wrist cupped as you swing through.  This shot is controlled by body rotation and not with the arms.

Chip Shot.

My definition of a chip shot is "Fly the ball in the air as little as possible, and roll the ball as much as possible" while still landing the ball on the putting surface.

Flop Shot.

Using the lob wedge (60-degree wedge), open the face to give it even more loft, and take a big backswing and a big follow-through.  This will produce a very high shot that does not go very far and stops fairly quickly. In my opinion, a high-risk, low reward shot for the amateur golfer.

Bump and Run Shot.

This is the same as a chip shot, but you are landing the ball short of the green this time.  Let the longer grass slow the ball down slightly and let it run onto the green. You would use this shot when there is not much green to work with, and you do not have an obstacle like a bunker or water hazard in front of you.
