Mental Golf Tips – The Mental Causes of Poor Shots

June 28 2010, 8:55am

When coaching players on their mental golf game, I always ask them what happened when they play a poor shot. The usual answer is something like, “I came across it”, or “My hands were too fast” or some other reason to do with swing mechanics. Whilst what they say is true, I want to know what has CAUSED that swing problem – WHY did they swing it like that?? This is where golf psychology can help you address the underlying causes of poor shots – your mental golf game - as opposed to putting a plaster over the physical symptoms. Tackling the underlying habitual patterns of your mental golf game will have the biggest impact on your scores.
