Golf Tips » September 1998: Bunk Shots – The High Shot
As you can see in Picture #1 I have a high bank in front of me. I address the ball slightly towards the front foot.

Picture #1
The real secret of this shot is to really open the clubface. The biggest fear people have is that the ball will go to the right. (for right-handed golfers) Understand that the ball will travel in the direction of the clubhead path and not the clubface angle, so don’t be afraid to open the clubface – just make sure that you follow-through to the target, as in picture #2.

Picture #2
Swing harder that you normally would because the ball will not fly as far with the clubface being more open than usual.
Here are a few rules:
- Open the clubface at address.
- Grip the club very lightly.
- Hit approximately 2” behind the ball.
- Make sure you follow through to the target!
