Golf Tips » May 2000 – Back To Basics, Part 2
This month we have our top female instructor Jenny Buchanan give us her tips on Posture and Alignment
We all know the importance of the grip as a basic fundamental in the golf swing, but what about posture and alignment ?
1. Alignment – Clubface: How do I set up square to my target ?
Alignment of the clubface is crucial to controlling the direction of the golf ball.
Picture #1 shows square clubface alignment – the clubface is perpendicular to the target line:

Picture #2 shows a closed clubface:

and Picture #3 shows an open clubface:

2. Alignment – Body: Picture # 4 shows a square alignment – the hips, shoulders and feet are parallel to the target line:

Picture #5 shows a closed stance (to the right of parallel for a right-handed golfer):

and Picture #6 shows an open stance (to the left of parallel for a right handed golfer):

Your position to the target line will strongly influence the starting direction of the golf ball.
Work diligently on the posture (April 2000) and then on both the clubface position and the body alignment, and you will see an almost immediate improvement in your overall scores
Enjoy the results!
