Golf Tips » July 2003: An easy way to hit a fade!
Tuesday, July 1, 2003In my May, 2003 golf tip I spoke about hitting a slight draw. I have had several requests from golfers asking if the same principal applies for hitting a fade (a shot that curves to the right for right-handed golfers). The answer is yes, but I’ll explain it anyway for those of you who need clarification. Use this method to hit a fade when you need it.
In picture #1, I need to hit a fade around the tree so I am lined up to the left of the tree (the direction I want the ball to start out). My clubface is aimed to my target (in this case behind the tree).

Here is a close-up of this situation:

Now go ahead and make your normal swing. The ball should start off where you are aimed and fade to the place your clubface was.

For those of you who have had difficulty fading a ball in the past, this is a fairly easy way to accomplish it without actually changing your swing. Try it on the range before you attempt it on the course, just so you know how the ball is going to react.
