Golf Tips » August 1999: How Do Female Golfers Get More Distance? Part 1

In order to get the maximum distance out of your swing, the first thing you have to start with is the backswing. The tendency particularly with woman golfers who do not have a lot of upper body strength is to pick the club up with the arms as demonstrated by our female instructor Jenny Buchanan in picture #1 causing a lack of shoulder turn and a decrease in the arc of the clubhead,

instead of swinging the club back all in one piece thus increasing the arc as in picture #2

and subsequently increasing the shoulder turn, as in picture #3
