Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Do you start the backswing with a wrist cock, or do you take the club back in one piece?  Well, some players do, and some players don't, so it depends on your instructor's philosophy.  Johnny Miller and Hubert Green started their backswing with a quick wrist set. Jack Nicklaus started back with a minimal wrist set.  My philosophy is simple, use the big muscles to generate power and eliminate the small muscles to improve accuracy. Here I describe why I teach a "no wrist cock" backswing and how to master it! The "secret is in the grip pressure."

The two moves to generate both power and accuracy would be a really wide arc on both the backswing and follow-through and soft hands to allow a natural wrist hinge at the top and, therefore, create a huge lag of the clubhead downswing. Focus on these two moves on the range first before trying and doing this on the golf course!
