Continuing our feet and ankles theme, I talk about getting your feet in the right position for an uphill chip.  Check it out. I talk about chipping on an uphill lie.  This needs flexible ankles to have the weight on the lead foot at the address.  Mel Sole demonstrates a unique trick to help in this regard.

Address Position.

Most amateur golfers over the age of 50 do not have a lot of mobility in their ankles.  So, uphill and downhill shots and sidehill shots can become a problem, both getting the body in the right place and balance. Pointing the lead foot up the hill at 90 degrees is a way of getting the weight forward and keeping the balance a lot easier.

Execution.

Make sure that the weight stays on the front foot while hitting an uphill chip shot.  Bent the knee forward as well as having the lead foot pointing up the hill.  This will allow you to get your hands ahead of the ball, allowing you to hit a slightly downward hit for a nice crisp chip shot.  Head to the range to practice this shot to know what to expect the next time you are faced with one of these shots.
