Driver off the Deck - Trouble Shot Tuesday #58.

Hi, I’m Mel Sole, Director of Instruction at the Mel Sole Golf School, headquartered at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club in Pawleys Island, SC.  We conduct 1, 2, and 3-day golf schools, hourly golf lessons, and senior golf schools—any golf instruction program your heart desires.  Give us a call at 800-624-4653 or 843-237-4993, and we will be happy to put a package together for a commuter school or a package that contains accommodations, golf, and the golf school.

Today we talk about hitting a driver off the ground.  Mainly for the advanced golfer, but even the mid-handicapper can get some benefit!  Enjoy!

This is a convenient shot to know.  When you are in the tress and have a good lie and need to keep the ball low, a driver is a good choice over a hybrid or long iron.  The average player can sometimes have difficulty keeping the ball low with one of those clubs.  But a driver off the ground will stay low almost every time!

The Two Keys.

The two keys to hitting the driver off the ground are moving the ball position slightly more forward in the stance and keeping the head behind the ball through impact. Do these two things, and you will be able to hit a nice low shot that will end up running quite a long way.  Try it next time you need a low shot that needs some distance.

This shot is also handy on a Par 5 or a long Par 4 when hitting into the wind.
