Today we talk about the angle of attack with your driver and how it can affect ball position and tee height.  This will really improve your tee shots on the course.

Tiger Woods has a -2-degree angle of attack.  What that means is that at impact, his driver's head is traveling 2 degrees downward.  Bubba Watson has a 2-degree upward angle of attack.  His driver is traveling 2 degrees upward at impact.  These two players need completely different ball positions and driver lofts to get the results they are looking for.

Downward Angle of Attack.

If the driver's head travels downwards as it hits the ball, the ball position needs to be slightly back of the lead heel's normal position.  The driver would also need slightly more loft to help with an efficient launch angle.

Upward Angle of Attack.

If the driver's head travels upwards as it hits the ball, the ball position needs to be at least off the lead heel, maybe even slightly further forward.  This player can get away with slightly less loft and launch the ball with an efficient launch angle.

The angle of Attack - Technical Thursday #66.  now gives you the tools to get both your angle of attack and driver launch checked to ensure that your golf swing is optimized for the maximum power and efficiency possible.
